Personal Electronic Devices (PEDs) - Indoor Recess Guidelines

Students at Graham Elementary School are allowed to have personal electronic devices such as video game systems or mp3 players during indoor recess. The following guidelines are important to remember when deciding to send your student to school with a PED. Examples of acceptable PEDs include mp3 players such as an iPod or video game systems such as a Nintendo DS. Although these are allowed during indoor recess, the school is not responsible for lost or stolen items. We trust the judgement of parents in determining what is sent to school with students.
  • Cellphones are not allowed.
  • Texting or voice communication via iPods, iPads, laptops, etc are not allowed.
  • Videos that students watch must be school appropriate. Anyone found watching inappropriate material will immediately lose the privilege of using these devices.
  • Music is permissible but must a) be school appropriate and b) be played only through an earbud that doesn't disturb others. The sound shouldn't be so loud that you can hear it outside the earbud. The same applies to video game systems. Either no sound at all or sound is through the earbud.
  • Students are recommended to keep their names on PEDs, and they should only be brought to school with parent permission.
  • Since many of these devices do have cameras, remind students that they should not be taking photos. This will also cause them to lose the privilege of using a PED.
